A mother of boys learns as she goes

“Did you Know…”

IMG_0003
This is the constant new phrase from my Liam, a true encyclopediac font of scientific trivia, and sometimes, honestly, I don’t even sound interested when I respond.

Just today he used this phrase to preface a query to his father about the little known fact that lava cannot harden under water at about 10 a.m.

At about 7 p.m. he asked me, “Mom, did you know that when the brain shuts down the blood cells die?”

I write this down now because some day even I won’t believe it.  And I’d like to say we would be saved from it if he got more age-appropriate videos. But honestly, he sees as much Bakugan Battle Brawl as he does the History Channel’s “Deep Space Disasters.”

He’s a sponge. I birthed a sponge. Please God let him be so flipping good at Karate that he can hold his own when the topic on the playground in Kindergarten is a little more mundane and kids want him to stop talking about space, volcanoes or the human body!

Meanwhile, charming Lexy still has no therapy helpers, (grr!), but did show me he understands the baby sign for dog, and said “clock” quite distinctly three times. We go to the orthopedist tomorrow to see if he needs foot braces to help him learn to walk.

Two such different boys, and both such loves. I told Liam a mom’s heart doubles each time she has a kid because we love each of them with our whole heart. He liked this idea of a chain of hearts inside one’s body.
